“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” [ James 1:22 NIV ]
Applying God’s Word to your daily life takes commitment. It is not easy for anyone to remain obedient, especially when there are so many distractions and influences constantly bombarding our lives. This is most challenging when we do not stay in God’s Word regularly, either by reading the Bible on our own and/or by receiving the teaching of God’s Word. Just like anything we do in our lives, the more you are exposed to something, the more you have an understanding of it, and therefore, the more you will apply it each day.
The lessons, instruction, and promises from the Bible provide the foundation you need, guiding you on how to best navigate the steps you take. It would be silly to use GPS, have it tell you which direction to go, and you decide to turn and go the other way. That GPS just became useless to you. It is the same for Believer’s who don’t use the invaluable guidance we receive from the Bible.
The Scripture goes on to compare one who doesn’t follow God’s Word after hearing it to “…someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like (James 1:23-4 NIV).
When we follow God’s Word, allowing it to be our guiding map for how we navigate each day, we receive the full blessing of what it is to walk in God’s light and truth. We are able to reflect who God is through us and show other’s who we are as a Believer, not only to receive His blessings, but so we may also be a blessing to others.
